The following preliminary checklist was assembled from published records, identifications on collections filed in herbaria as well as on unpublished records by N.S. Weber, J.M. Trappe, and W.C. Denison. label data from several herbaria [especially BPI, ELERG, ID, MICH, LAM, NY, OSC, RMS, SFSU, UCR, WSP, WTU, and the Mycological Herbarium of the Dever Botanic Gardens], references from the literature, and the collections of N.S. Weber and J.M. Trappe or submitted to them.
The names used reflect our thinking on the groupings of species into genera based on the material we have studied. The names are, of course, subject to change as additional information becomes available. Work is continuing on clarifying established synonymies and ensuring that citations of publications and names of authors are consistent. The list contains roughly 365 entries and is reduced from the preliminary list of over 1000 names encountered to date as having been applied to collections from the region.
In order to format the data for the World Wide Web, some compromises had to be made in the character set used. As a result, diacritical marks have been omitted and the base letter of the alphabet used in its place so that the bibliography could be presented as a searchable database.
The preparation of this list is part of ongoing studies on the "Epigeous and Hypogeous Pezizales of western North America" supported by NSF grant DEB 9400545.. Many problems remain to be solved.

Two methods of search this list are available at present: 1) use the find (binocular icon) capapility of your Web browser to look up the name of a taxon, or 2) click on the initial letter of the name of the genus, then from the list of genera, click on the genus in question. Within genera as yet one must scroll through the list. Of the approximately 90 genera listed, only the following have more than 10 entries at last count:
